If you are attempting to lose weight the two most important
things you can do is to start eating right and definitely
start an exercise routine. Your ultimate goal is to jump
start your metabolism which will enable your body to burn
more fat and in turn create more energy since the burning
of calories creates energy.
Regardless of the amount of weight you’d like to lose the
thing you need to focus on is increasing your metabolism.
The reason for this is that when your metabolism is
increased it will begin to stabilize at a higher level
enabling you to burn more fat for energy at all times.
Now if you feel you need to lose a lot of weight I’d
suggest that you first start increasing your metabolism by
taking short brisk walks everyday. If you haven’t
exercised in a while you want to start out slow so that you
don’t cause injury or burn yourself out early in your
quest. So start out with short walks, approximately 10 to
15 minutes per day. This will help to get the heart
pumping and increase your blood circulation. This will
also start increasing your oxygen intake which will
increase the amount of oxygen to your entire body
including your joints and ligaments. The addition oxygen
helps to burn fat and increase your metabolism. Of course
this is just a start and you will see some improvements,
but as you get used to the increased exercise you will then
want to start increasing the time and speed of your walks.
Once you start feeling your energy level and your strength
increase you can then start adding some type of aerobic
exercise program. Aerobic exercise will help with
increasing your metabolism and help your heart muscles. Be
aware that the aerobic heart rate is much higher that the
ideal heart rate for burning fat, which is a bit lower in
beat per minute. But you will still get the benefits of
burning fat while pushing your metabolic rate much higher
Of course if you have less weight to lose your metabolism
is probably a little higher already but you can still
increase it, with more exercise of course. I’d suggest
doing some type of cardio or aerobic exercise for at least
20 minutes every other day. I would also recommend eating 5
to 6 smaller meals throughout the day. This will give your
body the continuous fuel to increase your metabolism.
The next level you want to approach is the level of
strength and muscle building. This type of exercise will
definitely increase your metabolism and will assist both
men and women to build muscle which will allow the ability
to burn fat at all times, even when you are at rest. Good
or good! For all you woman don’t worry you do not need to
get bulky, the weight lifting will provide toning and
firming of your muscles and will help with your structure
and the strength of your bones. For you men, lifting
weights will start to give you more mass or just a more
toned and cut look which will help you feel better about
your body and yourself.
Many people do turn to supplements to increase their
metabolism. This might be helpful but be careful. Make
sure that you speak with your doctor whenever you start a
new exercise program or if you start taking a metabolism
increasing supplement. Be sure that there will not be any
repercussions to your health or any conflicts with any
prescription you may be taking. Also do some research on
the ingredients and make sure they are good quality. There
may be many supplements that work but pay attention to what
your body is telling you and if the side effects create any
discomfort discontinue the use of them.
The thing to focus on is that increasing your metabolism
will assist you to burn fat and give you more energy. The
addition of more muscle on your body will always make you
look and feel better but no matter what route you take to
boost your metabolism, make your health your number one
priority.

Will eating foods that contain trans-fats slow down my
weight loss and fat burn goals?
Basically, trans fats (or trans fatty acids, as they are
called), are an unnatural fat that is formed or created
whenever you fry or overheat oil, like vegetable or corn
oil.
When the elements that make up these oils are heated to an
extremely high temperature (like when you fry), they mutate
and turn into “trans” fats.
Also, manufacturers of different foods and snacks use a
process in which they take vegetable oil and convert it to
“hydrogenated” oil, which turns the oil into a solid that
can be used to make certain snacks.
That “hydrogenation” process turns a normal oil into a
trans fat.
So what does this have to do with trying to lose weight and
burn body fat???
Check these little facts out:
Harvard scientists estimate that trans fats may contribute
to more than 30, 000 premature deaths each year.
Since trans fats aren’t found naturally in “nature”, your
body has a very difficult time processing them…..meaning
it will cause damage to the heart.
Trans fats raise your bad cholesterol and lowers the good
one in your blood.
Trans fats are a major risk factor for developing diabetes.
Trans fats may actually promote muscle loss and could even
increase the risk of cancer.
In an 80, 000 person study, Harvard found that getting just
3% of your daily calories from trans fats increases your
risk of heart disease by up to 50% (this is the equivalent
of eating a single order of french fries).
The FDA estimates that most supermarkets carry more than
42, 000 products that contain trans fats.
Here are examples of everyday foods that contain trans fats:
chicken pot pie =3D 72 trans fat calories
2 biscuits =3D 72 trans fat calories
1 large order of french fries =3D 63 trans fat calories
1 cinnamon roll =3D 54 trans fat calories
6 fish sticks =3D 45 trans fat calories
1 order of nacho cheese =3D 45 trans fat calories
1 tablespoon of stick margarine =3D 45 trans fat calories
6 Oreo cookies =3D 36 trans fat calories
1 waffle =3D 36 trans fat calories
1 small movie-theater popcorn =3D 30 trans fat calories
1 slice of apple pie =3D 27 trans fat calories
1 pack of cheese and cracker sandwiches =3D 27 trans fat
calories
2 homemade chocolate chip cookies =3D 27 trans fat calories
5 pieces of chicken tenders =3D 25 trans fat calories
1 brownie =3D 25 trans fat calories
1 jelly donut =3D 18 trans fat calories
Anything that is fried is full of trans fats.
Also, if in the ingredients you see “hydrogenated oil” or
“partially hydrogenated oil” (except peanut butter), you
can be sure it has lots of trans fats.
Everybody wants to blame “carbs” or “sugar” for all the
overweight problems and health issues people are facing
today.
But the truth is that a moderate amount of carbs aren=92t the
problem, nor is regular fat, to a certain extent.
Trans fats are the real enemy!
Be sure to eat a lot of calories, but watch out for the
trans fats if you are working on losing weight or burning
body fat!

Are you ready to be healthy and full of vibrant energy?
Would you like some ideas about how to heal your body?
During many years as a psychotherapist, I discovered
fascinating insights into the emotional causes of disease
and accidents. I have also developed powerful processes
that have helped people heal themselves and maintain their
health and safety.
For example, Sunny, a young man in his early twenties, was
diabetic from the time he was twelve years old. When he
came to see me he was almost daily going into diabetic
shock. I have a favorite saying, =93Close your eyes and see
clearly.=94 So I said, =93Sunny, close your eyes and imagine
that you are really small and traveling inside your body to
the place where you store all your tension.=94 It was no
surprise to either one of us when Sunny ended up in front
of his pancreas. He said, =93My God, what a mess. There=92s a
lot of junk in there.=94
In the course of his counseling sessions, Sunny became
aware of and overcame all the negative emotional issues
that were =93stored=94 in his pancreas. By the eighth and final
session, Sunny reported that he was feeling great and his
pancreas looked very healthy. He said, =93It=92s amazing,
Helene, I=92m taking less than one-half of the amount of
insulin I needed when I first came to see you. I realize
that I almost killed myself by way of diabetic shock
because I couldn=92t cope with all the emotional pain with my
family and a broken relationship.=94
Another example of the connection between the mind, the
emotions, and the body is thirty-five-year-old Cindy. She
had no relief from her constant vaginal yeast infections no
matter how much she treated the condition with the
medication from her doctor. In her counseling process,
Cindy found out that her yeast infections were actually
serving her by preventing her from being sexual. When
confronted with the idea, Cindy admitted to herself that
she was afraid to be in another sexual relationship because
she always got too emotionally involved, and then felt
deeply hurt if it ended. Cindy=92s infection cleared up when
she trusted herself to avoid another relationship until she
was confident that she would not be devastated if it did
not last.
Tom, a forty-three-year-old businessman, finally came into
the office when his wife threatened to leave him. However,
he was still resistant and insisted that he was fine, he
had no problems. Meeting him on his level and at his
comfort zone, I said, =93Tom, let=92s be logical. You are
telling me that your childhood was fine, and that you have
no issues to resolve. The reality is that you are
struggling with your career, having serious problems with
your wife and daughters, and you have been warned about the
beginnings of heart problems.=94
=93Let=92s take the analogy of an automobile. If your car isn=92t
running properly do you believe that nothing is wrong or do
you open up the hood and fix it? Obviously, Tom, your life
is not running well, which means you have to deal with the
issues in your unconscious that are causing you problems.
In a sense you need to pick up your hood.=94
Tom realized that I had a point. He finally loosened his
tie, and was willing to regress back to his childhood. To
his surprise, he uncovered an incredible amount of pain.
Tom had succeeded in blocking his painful childhood; but
because of his denial, he was heading for disaster. It was
amazing to see this logical, machine-like person transform
into a feeling human being as he expressed his fears, his
deep hurts, shame, anger, and grief. As a result, Tom began
to feel so good about himself that he began to watch his
diet, exercise more and improve his relationships with his
family. I will never forget when he happily told me about
the wonderful report he had received from his doctor.
The case of Sarah is another example of how important it is
to listen to your body and constructively express your
feelings. Sarah, a forty-seven-year-old woman, was
suffering from recurring cancer. Previously, the doctors
had succeeded in removing a malignant tumor from her throat
and Sarah seemed to be doing well. However, six months ago
they discovered a growth in her back.
During the first counseling session, Sarah was able to
express her anger, shame, and fears=97something she never
did. She was a people pleaser, someone who always had a
smile on her face. Sarah always tried to make everyone
happy, even if she hurt herself in the process. When Sarah
returned the following week, she told me that she was able
to cut her pain medication in half. After another session,
in which she released intensive emotional pain, she was
totally free of physical pain.
Needless to say, Sarah was very optimistic about her
recovery. However, Sarah called me one day very upset. She
was feeling pain in her throat where the first tumor was
removed. I reassured her that the doctors succeeded in
removing the growth, the symptom, but the emotional cause
was still not resolved. In the next session, after Sarah
released her issues about being afraid to speak up, about
communicating how she really felt, the pain in her throat
disappeared.
I have noticed that certain emotions will be blocked in
specific areas of the body. For example, clients often
realize that they are angry when they have upper or lower
back pain, headaches, tightness in the base of the skull,
or jaw pain. I often find fear blocked in the abdominal
areas, sadness stuffed in the sinuses, or the sides of the
back of the neck. The feeling of responsibility causes
tension in the shoulders. Hurt and deep sadness often
explains the tightness in the center of the chest or in the
heart.
I have also found the body to be very literal. Some
examples are: tension in the throat deals with the fear of
speaking; problems in the eyes relate to not wanting to see
something; hearing problems often correspond to the desire
not to hear.
It may be hard to believe, but I have discovered that our
unresolved emotions can also cause our accidents. In fact,
every time a client had an injury, they were always able to
uncover the reason it happened. For example, Tonya, a very
attractive twenty-one-year-old, had a scar on her forehead
from a serious car accident.
I said, =93Tonya, imagine that you are up in the sky and
looking down at the collision. Now tell the Tonya in the
car why she had that accident.=94 She replied, =93Tonya, you
had that accident because you felt guilty about having so
much more than your family members and your friends. You
are prettier, smarter, and more successful, and you don=92t
appreciate all that you have.=94
We are all very powerful beings. We have the ability to
create our illness or accidents as well as our health and
safety. In order to be healthy and full of vibrant energy,
we need to understand that our physical bodies are
expressing our thoughts and feelings. When we listen to
what our bodies are telling us, when we constructively
express our emotions and resolve our issues, we can take an
active part in healing ourselves and experience optimum
safety, health, and happiness.
